VIA AIMS: Visual Impact Assessment is an integral part of managing our visual heritage ensuring the integrity of South Africa’s unique visual environment is preserved.

The process involves the evaluation of the suitability of a proposed landscape modification as a component of an EIA process.

Product required: Level 3 visual assessment:

Identification of issues raised in scoping phase, and site visit;
Description of the receiving environment and the proposed project;
Establishment of view catchment area, view corridors, viewpoints and receptors;

Indication of potential visual impacts using established criteria;
Inclusion of potential lighting impacts at night;
Description of alternatives, mitigation measures and monitoring programmes.

Review by independent, experienced visual specialist (if required).
